Sweden captain Kosovare Asllani scored one and assisted another as her side eased into the knockout stages of UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 with a dominant 3-0 victory over Poland on Tuesday — a result which also eliminated the Poles from the tournament.

The emphatic win not only secured Sweden’s progress but also confirmed Germany’s place in the quarter-finals, following their earlier triumph over Denmark, who now join Poland in exiting Group C.

Both Germany and Sweden now sit atop the group with six points apiece, setting up a high-stakes showdown in Zurich on Saturday to decide the group winner.

Sweden’s Aerial Superiority Overwhelms Poland
Sweden’s physical presence and relentless aerial assault proved too much for Poland’s defence throughout the match, with crosses from both flanks causing constant problems.

Asllani and Madelen Janogy both struck the woodwork with early headers as Sweden piled on the pressure. The breakthrough came in the 28th minute, when Stina Blackstenius rose highest to head home a pinpoint delivery from her captain.

Sweden continued to dominate possession and territory, exploiting Poland’s inability to deal with crosses.

Asllani Shines in 201st International Appearance
In her 201st senior international appearance, Asllani capped off a commanding performance by doubling Sweden’s lead in the 52nd minute. The midfielder ghosted through the centre of the pitch and clinically converted a well-placed cross from Johanna Rytting Kaneryd.

Substitute Lina Hurtig completed the scoring in the 77th minute, nodding in a header from a corner to make it 3-0 — Sweden’s third headed goal of the evening.

Sweden’s clinical performance underlined their credentials as serious contenders for the European crown, while Poland’s campaign ends with two defeats and no goals scored.
