Mr. Sinwar’s death represents yet another significant event in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The newly appointed leader of Hamas, Yahya Sinwar, has been killed in a gun battle in Gaza, less than two months after taking on the leadership of the Palestinian group.

Mr. Sinwar, aged sixty, was one of the key architects behind the attack on October 7, which resulted in multiple fatalities in Israel.

On Thursday, the Israeli military confirmed that Mr. Sinwar, who had assumed leadership of Hamas in August following the assassination of former leader Ismail Haniyeh, was killed during a confrontation between Israeli soldiers and Hamas forces.

His body was recovered after clashes occurred in Gaza on Wednesday, with Israeli police indicating they identified him through dental records and fingerprints.

As of now, Hamas has not officially confirmed Mr. Sinwar's death. His time as leader was brief, coming just weeks after Haniyeh's assassination in Iran on July 31.

The death of Mr. Sinwar represents another significant event in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Before his appointment, Mr. Sinwar was a well-known figure within Hamas, having joined the organization in the 1980s and serving as its leader in Gaza since 2017.
