"Viewers watched as Waddingham's Rebecca Welton reunited with the Dutchman she shared a heartfelt evening with in Amsterdam."

Hannah Waddingham shares her thoughts on the romantic status of her Ted Lasso character, Rebecca Welton.

In an exclusive chat with PEOPLE, the 49-year-old actress reveals her perspective on what Welton's life might be like after Ted Lasso left AFC Richmond to coach his son Henry's soccer team.

"My first instinct is that she is single and readjusting to life at the club, and her shoulders have finally relaxed," she says with a smile.

While Waddingham imagines Welton as single and embracing her new chapter, the series finale hinted at a potential romance for her character with the Dutchman from Amsterdam, whom she shared a tender evening with earlier in season 3. Their interaction in the finale suggests that romance could be on the horizon.

"I like the fact that it was suggested but not overly emphasised," Waddingham told Entertainment Weekly after the finale. "I appreciate that it's bringing some sunshine into her life and a change of pace perhaps, but I'm glad it wasn't overly emphasised. I think there would be a period of adjustment for her anyway. Ted leaving was a huge thing, so, yeah, I like that it was just touched upon."

Ted Lasso premiered on Apple TV+ in August 2020 and concluded in June 2023, winning 13 Emmy Awards during its three-season run. Waddingham was nominated twice and won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2021.

Alongside Waddingham, the series starred Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed, Phil Dunster, Toheeb Jimoh, Cristo Fernández, Sarah Niles, and Jeremy Swift.

Given the popularity of her character, fans would likely welcome a spinoff series featuring Welton. However, Waddingham mentioned to EW that she hasn't given much thought to a potential new series.

"It's not something I've really considered," she said in May 2023. "But if there were more to come, I'd certainly consider it. It's a wonderfully crafted role that I've had a significant role in shaping. I'm fully invested in her, so I would always consider that."

Ted Lasso is currently available for streaming on AppleTV+.
