24 PEOPLE DIE IN TWO ONDO COMMUNITIES

At least 24 people have died and 50 others have been hospitalised following a suspected poisoning incident in two communities in Ondo State, southwestern Nigeria.
The deaths were recorded in Araromi Obu and Odigbo, both in Odigbo Local Government Area, after residents reportedly consumed a herbal liquid substance.

ODIGBO COUNCIL CONFIRMS 24 DEATHS

The Chairman of Odigbo Local Government Area, Taiwo Adegoroye, confirmed the deaths on Wednesday.
According to him, eight people died in Araromi Obu while 16 deaths were recorded in Odigbo town.
He said 50 other people had been hospitalised and were receiving medical attention.
“We can confirm the death of 24 people, eight in Araromi Obu and 16 in Odigbo town and many are still in hospitals,” Adegoroye said in a statement.
However, the local government chairman stressed that authorities had not yet established that the substance consumed was responsible for the deaths.
Medical examinations and laboratory tests are still being conducted to determine what caused the victims to fall ill and whether there was a direct connection between the substance and the deaths.
