UK counter-terrorism police have arrested a 27-year-old dual British-Iranian national in connection with an investigation into a security incident near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire. Another British man was questioned, while police continue to examine several possible explanations, including potential foreign state involvement. Iran has denied any role.

British police have arrested another man as part of an investigation into a security incident at RAF Fairford, a US-operated air base in Gloucestershire, southern England.
Counter Terrorism Policing said the 27-year-old man, who holds both British and Iranian nationality, was arrested in London on suspicion of preparing terrorist acts under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
The arrest comes as British authorities investigate whether the incident may have involved foreign state activity.

POLICE INVESTIGATE POSSIBLE IRANIAN CONNECTION

The arrest followed comments by British Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who told the BBC that there were “strong indications” that Iran may have played a role in the incident.
Iran has rejected the suggestion.
Iran's embassy in London said it “categorically rejects and strongly condemns” speculation linking Tehran to the incident, while Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed Burnham's comments as being based on the wrong direction.
The claims remain under investigation and no evidence establishing Iranian government involvement has been publicly confirmed in the information released by police.

SECOND MAN ALSO QUESTIONED

Counter Terrorism Policing said another man, who is a British national, was questioned under caution.
Officers have also searched two properties as part of the investigation.
Vicki Evans of Counter Terrorism Policing said the investigation was “hugely complex”, with specialist teams examining several possible explanations for what happened.
She said investigators were considering “all possible angles”, including possible involvement by a foreign state.

FIVE MEN WERE PREVIOUSLY ARRESTED

Five British men in their 20s, all from the London area, were arrested on Sunday following the incident near RAF Fairford.
Police said the men were suspected of offences involving explosives and terrorism. They were reportedly wearing face coverings when they were detained.
Officers seized three white vans described as suspicious and evacuated about 85 nearby households while bomb disposal teams carried out searches.

NO EXPLOSIVE DEVICES FOUND

Police said a quantity of petrol was discovered, but no explosive devices were found inside the vans.
The five suspects were later released on bail while investigations continued.
Their release has attracted attention after US President Donald Trump questioned the decision.

RAF FAIRFORD HAS STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE

RAF Fairford is a major military airfield that has been used by the United States for long-range bomber operations.
Its connection to US military activity in the region has increased attention surrounding the security incident, particularly amid heightened tensions involving Iran.
Investigators are now examining whether the incident was connected to terrorism, a foreign state or another motive.
