At least six people were killed and more than 20 injured after Russia launched overnight drone and missile attacks across several regions of Ukraine, including Odesa, Mykolaiv and Zaporizhzhia. Ukraine said it also carried out strikes on Russian military assets, claiming to have hit Black Sea vessels and destroyed a Russian Tu-95 bomber as fighting between the two countries intensified.
Russian overnight attacks kill six across Ukraine as fighting intensifies
At least six people have been killed and more than 20 others injured after Russia launched a fresh wave of overnight attacks across several regions of Ukraine, according to Ukrainian authorities.
The strikes targeted cities in southern, southeastern and northeastern Ukraine, damaging homes, civilian infrastructure and industrial facilities as the conflict continued to intensify.
CIVILIANS KILLED IN SOUTHERN UKRAINE
In the southern port city of Odesa, regional officials said two people were killed and 10 others injured after Russian attacks overnight.
Among those injured was a woman who was reportedly walking through a park with her children when the attack occurred. The children survived.
In nearby Mykolaiv, prosecutors said two Ukrainian civilians were killed after a Russian drone strike damaged three civilian-flagged vessels at the port.
ZAPORIZHZHIA AND KHARKIV ALSO HIT
Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said two more people were killed and five others injured in Russia's attacks on the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region.
In Kharkiv, three people were reported injured during shelling, while neighbouring Sumy region came under heavy bombardment, with officials reporting that 15 glide bombs struck residential areas and civilian infrastructure.
One person was injured in Sumy, according to Ukrainian authorities.
GAS FACILITY DAMAGED
Ukraine's state energy company Naftogaz said operations at one of its gas production facilities in the Kharkiv region were suspended after it was struck by Russian drones.
The company said engineers were still assessing the full extent of the damage.
President Zelenskyy said Russia launched more than 130 drones and eight missiles during the overnight attacks.
RUSSIA SAYS MILITARY TARGETS WERE HIT
Russia's Defence Ministry said its strikes targeted military-related infrastructure in Odesa, including facilities linked to drone production and port operations used by Ukraine's armed forces.
However, Ukrainian officials did not report damage to port infrastructure in Odesa.
UKRAINE CLAIMS SUCCESSFUL RETALIATION
Ukraine also announced fresh military operations targeting Russian assets.
The head of Ukraine's drone forces, Robert Brovdi, claimed Ukrainian drones struck several Russian vessels in the Black Sea, including cargo ships, a tanker, a gas transport vessel and a tugboat.
He said the operations were designed to disrupt Russian logistics and fuel shipments rather than sink the ships.
The claims could not be independently verified.
President Zelenskyy also said Ukrainian forces destroyed a Russian Tu-95 strategic bomber at the Engels airbase deep inside Russian territory.
According to Zelenskyy, the aircraft had previously been used to launch missile attacks against Ukraine.
He described the operation as part of Ukraine's efforts to defend itself against continued Russian attacks.
The latest exchange of strikes highlights the continuing escalation of the war, with both sides increasingly targeting strategic infrastructure while civilians continue to bear the human cost of the conflict.
