Russian missile and drone attacks across Ukraine killed at least 16 people and injured dozens, hitting cities including Kyiv, Odesa, and Dnipro. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for more air defense support from allies.
Deadly Russian Missile and Drone Strikes Kill at Least 16 Across Ukraine
Russian missile and drone strikes have killed at least 16 people and injured many others across Ukraine in a series of overnight attacks, according to local authorities. The assaults targeted multiple cities, hitting civilian areas and raising fears that the death toll could increase as rescue efforts continue.
In the capital, Kyiv, at least four people were killed, including a 12-year-old child, while 18 others sustained injuries. Officials reported that the city was struck in several waves, with explosions heard across different districts. Emergency responders worked through the night, rescuing survivors from damaged buildings. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a mother and child were pulled from the rubble of a heavily damaged residential structure in a central area. Firefighters also battled multiple blazes sparked by the தாக்க.
In the southern port city of Odesa, at least nine people were killed in the strikes. The attacks followed an earlier drone strike on Wednesday evening that hit an apartment building, leaving one person dead and six injured. The repeated targeting of residential areas has intensified concerns about civilian safety.
Elsewhere, in Dnipro, a missile strike injured at least 27 people and caused fires in residential buildings. Authorities said five of the injured were in critical condition. Explosions were reported across several districts, damaging both homes and commercial properties, although the full extent of casualties and destruction is still being assessed.
Air raid sirens were activated across multiple regions as the attacks continued into the early hours, underscoring the widespread nature of the assault. Ukraine’s air force reported that it intercepted or neutralized dozens of incoming threats, including 31 missiles and hundreds of drones, though many still managed to strike their targets.
The escalation comes as Volodymyr Zelenskyy continues to push for stronger international support. Following a meeting with European allies in Germany, the Ukrainian president stressed the urgent need for more air defense systems to protect the country from ongoing attacks. He warned that Russia’s continued strikes make it impossible to normalize relations and called for sustained pressure and timely fulfillment of military assistance commitments from allies.
