Türkiye has delivered the first batch of 10,000 emergency tents to Sudan to help address the country’s severe shelter crisis caused by ongoing conflict. The tents, part of a 30,000-unit consignment, arrived at Port of Sudan and will be distributed in phases to displaced and vulnerable populations, reflecting Türkiye’s humanitarian support and solidarity with Sudan amid what the UN describes as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis.

Türkiye has delivered the first batch of emergency relief supplies to Sudan as part of efforts to address the country’s worsening shelter crisis, with 10,000 tents arriving out of a total planned consignment of 30,000. The shipment arrived at Port of Sudan, where it was formally received by Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Vice President Hamza Taşdelen and Türkiye’s Ambassador to Sudan, Fatih Yıldız.
Also present at the reception were Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission Commissioner, Selva Adem, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Sudan Mission Chief, Mohamed Refaat, alongside several Sudanese government and local officials. Their presence underscored the collaborative nature of the humanitarian response aimed at supporting vulnerable populations affected by the ongoing conflict.
Sudan has been engulfed in violent conflict since April 2023, when fighting erupted between the Sudanese national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) following the breakdown of a transition process intended to lead the country toward civilian rule. Since then, the violence has resulted in the deaths of thousands of people and forced millions to flee their homes. Entire communities have been uprooted, critical infrastructure has been damaged, and access to basic services has been severely disrupted. The United Nations has described the situation as the largest humanitarian crisis currently facing the world.
The emergency tents were shipped from the Turkish port city of Mersin on December 6. According to AFAD Vice President Hamza Taşdelen, the full consignment of approximately 30,000 tents will be delivered in three separate batches. He added that the International Organization for Migration is committed to ensuring that the tents are distributed to those most severely affected by the conflict, particularly displaced families who are currently living in precarious conditions without adequate shelter.
Speaking at the event, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Sudan, Fatih Yıldız, emphasized that the tents represent more than just physical relief items. He said they also carry a message of solidarity and compassion from the Turkish people to the people of Sudan during a period of immense hardship. According to Yıldız, the humanitarian assistance reflects the long-standing historical ties, friendship, and sense of brotherhood between Türkiye and Sudan, reaffirming Türkiye’s commitment to standing with Sudan and its people in their most difficult moments.
