Pep Guardiola jokingly called on West Ham United to do Manchester City a favour in the Premier League title race after his side secured a convincing 3-0 victory over Brentford.

Following the win at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola ended his post-match press conference with a smile, crossing his arms and saying, “Come on you Irons”, ahead of league leaders Arsenal travelling to the London Stadium on Sunday.

City Keep Pressure on Arsenal

Manchester City reduced the gap at the top of the table to just two points after overcoming a determined Brentford side still chasing European qualification.

Despite a tense opening period, City eventually found their breakthrough shortly after the hour mark when Jérémy Doku curled home an impressive opener.

The hosts then took control of the contest as Erling Haaland added a second goal before later setting up Omar Marmoush for City’s third of the evening.

The victory keeps Guardiola’s side firmly in contention for the title, although they no longer control the race following Monday’s dramatic 3-3 draw against Everton.

Guardiola Enjoying Another Title Battle

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the title race, Guardiola admitted he is relishing being involved in another battle for major honours after a disappointing campaign last season, when City finished well behind Liverpool.

“I love being back in this situation again,” Guardiola said.

“At the very least we will finish second this season, and I’m enjoying it. Last season was difficult, especially when we were fighting just to qualify for the Champions League.”

The City manager also reflected positively on the club’s domestic cup success.

“We already have the Carabao Cup, and now we have an FA Cup final at Wembley ahead of us, which is always one of the best occasions of the season,” he added.

Doku Continues Outstanding Form

Doku once again proved to be City’s standout performer after another influential display.

The Belgian winger, who scored twice against Everton earlier in the week, caused constant problems for Brentford defender Michael Kayode and played a decisive role in breaking down the visitors’ resistance.

Guardiola praised the winger’s development and growing confidence this season.

“He has taken an important step forward,” Guardiola said. “That improvement belongs entirely to him and the confidence he has built.

“In top teams you need players in attacking positions to make decisive actions. It cannot always be only Erling. The wingers and attacking midfielders must also produce moments that win matches.”

Title Race Heading for Dramatic Finish

With only a handful of matches remaining, the Premier League title race continues to intensify as Arsenal attempt to hold off Manchester City’s relentless pursuit.

City now turn their attention to Arsenal’s clash with West Ham, hoping the Hammers can provide a crucial favour in one of the closest title races in recent seasons.
