Oasis have paid tribute to late footballer Diogo Jota during their emotional return to the stage, marking the official start of their highly anticipated reunion tour.

The legendary Manchester band, fronted by Liam and Noel Gallagher, performed together on Friday evening for the first time since their 2009 split. The sold-out concert at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, was a landmark moment for fans, many of whom had awaited this reunion for well over a decade.

First teased in early 2024 and confirmed in August of that year, the tour has reignited excitement around one of Britain’s most iconic rock bands. Their return was met with rapturous applause as the group powered through a two-hour, 23-song setlist, featuring hits from across their seven studio albums, including classics such as "Supersonic," "Champagne Supernova," "Half the World Away," and "Roll With It."

Emotional Tribute to Late Liverpool Forward Diogo Jota
In a particularly poignant moment near the close of the show, the Gallagher brothers paused to pay tribute to Diogo Jota, the former Liverpool forward, who tragically died in a car accident the previous day.

Performing the anthemic "Live Forever", the band dedicated the song to Jota and his younger brother André Silva, both of whom lost their lives in the crash near Zamora, Spain, on Thursday. Jota was 28, while André was 25.

As lifelong supporters of Manchester City, the Gallagher brothers set aside football rivalries to honour the lives lost, joining the global football and music communities in mourning the tragic news. Since the accident, tributes have poured in from across the world, and Oasis’ on-stage dedication served as one of the most high-profile acknowledgements of the players’ passing.

The funeral service for the brothers is scheduled to take place on Saturday morning in Gondomar, Portugal, where the family hails from.

Oasis Tour to Continue Across the UK and Beyond
Following the opening night in Cardiff, Oasis will return to the same venue for a second show on Saturday. The band will then move on to a series of headline concerts in Manchester, London, and Edinburgh, before embarking on international dates.

The reunion tour is set to conclude on 23 November in São Paulo, Brazil, bringing their music back to fans worldwide after a 15-year hiatus.
