Manchester City have completed the signing of Wolverhampton Wanderers full-back Rayan Aït-Nouri for an initial fee of £31 million, potentially rising to £36 million with performance-related add-ons.

The 24-year-old Algeria international becomes City’s first signing of the summer transfer window, putting pen to paper on a five-year contract. The deal was finalised ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline, ensuring Aït-Nouri will be available for the Club World Cup fixture on Saturday.

Aït-Nouri is expected to address a long-standing void at left-back, with manager Pep Guardiola having previously rotated Josko Gvardiol, Nathan Aké and youngster Nico O'Reilly in the position. The new arrival offers a natural solution on the flank and adds significant depth to the squad.

Expressing his delight, Aït-Nouri said:

“I’m incredibly happy and honoured to join Manchester City. This is one of the biggest clubs in the world, and signing for City is a dream come true.

“I’m very excited to work under Pep Guardiola and his coaching staff, and to train and play alongside such a world-class group of players. This is also a very proud moment for my family. I cannot wait to get started and play in front of the supporters.”

City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, also shared his excitement at the signing:

“Rayan is a player we’ve been monitoring closely for some time, and we’re delighted to welcome him to the club.

“He has already gained considerable Premier League experience and shown his quality on the international stage with Algeria. We’re confident he will be an excellent addition to the squad, and that working under Pep and his staff will further elevate his game.

“At just 24 years old, we believe he has a very bright future and will play a key role in helping us achieve more success.”

Aït-Nouri initially joined Wolves from French side Angers on loan in 2020, before making the move permanent in 2021. During his time at Molineux, he made 157 appearances, scoring 12 goals and providing 19 assists across all competitions.

As part of the transfer, Angers are set to receive £9.5 million after Wolves agreed to relinquish a previously established 50 percent sell-on clause—an arrangement made during his initial move from France.

Aït-Nouri’s impressive 2023–24 campaign, in which he started 37 of 38 league matches, is believed to have caught Guardiola’s eye. His attacking dynamism and defensive reliability were key factors in City’s pursuit of the left-back.
