Rangers head coach Danny Röhl believes his side are building strong momentum after claiming their first Europa League victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Ludogorets at Ibrox.
Danny Röhl Hails Europa League Win as Rangers Look to Sustain Momentum
Mohamed Diomande’s first-half strike sealed a seventh consecutive victory in all competitions for the Light Blues. However, despite the positive result, Rangers’ European campaign will come to an end, having collected just four points from seven matches.
Attention now turns back to the William Hill Premiership, with Rangers hosting Dundee on Sunday as they continue their pursuit of the league title. Röhl’s side currently sit behind second-placed Celtic on goal difference and trail leaders Hearts by six points, with Hearts set to face Celtic this weekend.
Reflecting on the Europa League victory, Röhl said the result was vital in maintaining confidence and consistency.
“The first win in Europe is important for us because it keeps the momentum going,” he said.
“We have now won seven matches in a row, which is fantastic. From the last nine games, we have also kept six clean sheets, and that is a very strong foundation.”
Despite the positive run, Röhl stressed that there remains room for improvement, particularly in front of goal.
“I also saw many things we can improve,” he added.
“I will never say everything was perfect. We adjusted our pressing in the second half, which was closer to how I want us to play, and we created many good chances. We should have scored two or three goals.”
Röhl highlighted defensive solidity as a key factor behind Rangers’ recent success.
“At half-time, I told the players that clean sheets are the big difference right now. When we keep them, we always have a chance to win games,” he said.
“Overall, I have big respect for my players’ performance.”
The German coach emphasised the importance of maintaining intensity ahead of the Dundee fixture, warning against complacency.
“It feels like we are in a position where we can win, win, win, but only through hard work,” Röhl explained.
“If we turn up at 99 per cent on Sunday, then we will not win. We need 100 per cent every three days, and that must be our standard.”
Röhl also acknowledged frustration over missed chances but believes recent signing Andreas Skov Olsen could help improve Rangers’ attacking efficiency.
“We created good moments, but we need more calmness in the final third,” he said.
“Skov Olsen can help us with that very soon. I’ve seen his quality during the week, and he can be an important player for us.”
While pleased with the team’s progress, Röhl admitted Rangers must still limit opportunities for opponents.
“Our goalkeeper has had to make at least one important save in many games to keep us in it,” he added.
“That is something we must continue to reduce as we move forward.”
