Celtic have announced the signing of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho on a free transfer, just in time to meet the Europa League registration deadline.

The 28-year-old secured his release from Sevilla in recent days, allowing him to join a new club outside the transfer window. Manager Brendan Rodgers, who previously worked with Iheanacho at Leicester City, moved quickly to bring him in after missing out on other targets, including Kasper Dolberg.

One-Year Deal with Option to Extend

Iheanacho has signed an initial one-year contract at Celtic Park, with the option of extending for a further year.

Rodgers expressed his delight at reuniting with the forward, telling the club’s official website:

“I know Kelechi so well and what he can bring to the team. He is such a talented player, with great ability, athleticism and work-rate.

“I am sure he will enjoy being at Celtic and I believe our fans will love what he offers. He has great experience and is right in his peak years, so he can be an excellent signing for us. I am confident he will make a big contribution to the team.”

Rodgers Reunites with Former Foxes Striker

Rodgers worked with Iheanacho during his time at Leicester City, where the forward scored consistently and established himself as a reliable attacking option. The Celtic boss has now turned to his former player to strengthen his strike force following the departure of Adam Idah to Swansea City.

Other Striker Options Considered

Celtic had also explored a deal for another free agent striker with Premier League experience, Patrick Bamford, but ultimately opted to secure Iheanacho, who brings both familiarity and proven quality to Rodgers’ squad.
