Xavi Simons has been named in RB Leipzig’s training camp squad amid ongoing speculation surrounding his future.

The Dutch midfielder, who will travel with Leipzig to the Black Forest region in Germany, remains a subject of interest for Chelsea. The player is reportedly engaged in direct discussions with the Blues regarding personal terms.

Chelsea have already strengthened their attacking options this summer with the acquisitions of João Pedro, Liam Delap, and Jamie Gittens, while highly rated Brazilian teenager Estevão Willian is also set to join the club ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Despite these additions, the Blues are eager to bolster their attacking line further following the £52 million departure of Noni Madueke to Arsenal.

Simons—who is represented by the same agency as Madueke—has been identified as a key target by Chelsea. The 22-year-old impressed last season, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists across all competitions.

Long regarded as one of Europe’s most promising young talents, Simons rose through the ranks at Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy before spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Leipzig.

A highly versatile forward, capable of operating both as a No.10 and as a winger, Simons would bring pace and creativity to Chelsea’s front line. His addition would also provide valuable depth to Enzo Maresca’s squad ahead of a potentially demanding campaign.

Chelsea recently claimed the FIFA Club World Cup title, concluding their 2024/25 season nearly a full year after it began.

Due to their participation in the Club World Cup, the Blues have opted against a traditional pre-season tour. Instead, their scaled-back preparations will place greater reliance on squad depth to avoid fatigue as the new season progresses.

Simons has spent the past two seasons on loan at Leipzig from PSG. However, the German side terminated the second loan early by securing his permanent signing in January for an initial fee of £43 million.

That deal included additional clauses worth up to £27 million. Should Simons depart Leipzig this summer, the German club would owe Paris Saint-Germain significantly less in potential add-ons.

The French champions included a sell-on clause in Simons’s Leipzig contract, which runs until June 2027.
