Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a double defensive blow ahead of their crucial Champions League fixture against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday evening, while on-loan forward Randal Kolo Muani has escaped uninjured following a minor car accident.
Tottenham Hit by Double Defensive Setback Ahead of Crucial Champions League Clash as Kolo Muani Escapes Car Accident
Already battling a lengthy injury list, Spurs head into the decisive clash in Germany knowing that victory would secure direct qualification to the next stage of the competition and avoid a play-off tie. However, head coach Thomas Frank has confirmed that two key defenders will be unavailable.
Pedro Porro has been ruled out for around a month after sustaining a hamstring injury, while Micky van de Ven is nursing a minor issue. Frank expects the Dutch centre-back to recover in time for Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Manchester City but confirmed he will not feature against Frankfurt.
Porro’s absence is likely to see Djed Spence start at right-back, while Kevin Danso is expected to partner Cristian Romero in central defence against the already-eliminated Bundesliga side.
Tottenham’s injury problems remain extensive, with Rodrigo Bentancur, Richarlison, Ben Davies, Lucas Bergvall, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Mohammed Kudus all sidelined. In addition, Radu Drăgușin, Yves Bissouma, Mathys Tel and recent arrivals Conor Gallagher and Souza are ineligible for the European fixture.
Away from selection concerns, Frank also provided reassurance regarding Kolo Muani, confirming the French forward was “fine” after being involved in what he described as a “minor accident” while travelling to the airport.
Images circulated on social media on Tuesday showing Kolo Muani alongside team-mate Wilson Odobert next to a damaged Ferrari. Tottenham later clarified that Odobert was travelling in a separate vehicle and had stopped to assist his colleague.
Both players subsequently travelled to Germany, with Frank confirming that no one involved in the incident was injured.
“It was a tyre blowout,” Frank explained. “They were delayed a little, but everyone is fine and they arrived later that evening.”
Despite the off-field disruption and growing list of absentees, Spurs remain focused on securing qualification as they prepare for a high-stakes night in Frankfurt.
