Barcelona are preparing for a significant reshuffle in the final days of the winter transfer window, with several departures expected from both the first team and La Masia.

Club captain Marc-André ter Stegen has already joined Girona on loan, while Dro Fernández is set to move to Paris Saint-Germain after submitting a formal request to leave. In addition, a number of academy players are also expected to depart before the window closes.

One of those is young defender Andrés Cuenca. Despite being tipped for increased involvement following Ronald Araújo’s indefinite absence, the 18-year-old has been unable to convince head coach Hansi Flick. With his contract entering its final six months, Cuenca is now expected to continue his career away from the Catalan club.

Serie A newcomers Como have made an initial offer for the defender, and according to reports from Sportitalia, the proposal includes a 25 per cent sell-on clause in Barcelona’s favour. Such a clause would allow the Blaugrana to retain a degree of control over Cuenca’s future, should he develop elsewhere.

A move to Como has already proven beneficial for young Spanish talents, with former Real Madrid prospects Nico Paz and Jacobo Ramón thriving under the guidance of head coach Cesc Fàbregas. Cuenca could become the latest youngster to follow that path, a scenario that would potentially benefit Barcelona financially in the long term.

Another Barça Atlètic defender set to depart

Cuenca may not be the only defensive departure from Barça Atlètic before the window closes. Mamadou Mbacke is also expected to leave after it was decided that his pathway to the first team is limited.

A move to the United States has been discussed for the Senegalese defender, although details remain unclear. Should such a transfer materialise, it is yet to be determined whether Barcelona would be able to negotiate another sell-on clause as part of the deal.

With just over a week remaining in the transfer window, further exits are anticipated as Barcelona continue to reshape their squad and manage their long-term planning.
