Nottingham Forest have sacked Ange Postecoglou just minutes after their 3–0 defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground.

Postecoglou, who was appointed in August to replace Nuno Espírito Santo, leaves the club without registering a single victory during his brief 39-day tenure. The decision to part ways with the Australian came swiftly, with Forest announcing his departure just 18 minutes after the final whistle on Saturday afternoon.

A statement released by the club read:

“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The Club will make no further comment at this time.”

Former Burnley and Everton manager Sean Dyche is understood to be the frontrunner to succeed Postecoglou.

Postecoglou entered Saturday’s fixture under immense pressure to deliver his first win, but two goals in three second-half minutes sealed Forest’s fifth defeat of the season.

The Reds collected just one point from their five Premier League matches under the Australian’s leadership, leaving them precariously placed in 17th — just a point above the relegation zone.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, who personally hand-picked Postecoglou for the role just over a month ago, was seen grim-faced in the directors’ box before exiting midway through the second half.

Postecoglou’s 39-day spell is now the second-shortest managerial reign in Premier League history, behind only Sam Allardyce’s 30-day stint at Leeds United.
