Tottenham Hotspur Women progressed to the quarter-finals of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup after defeating London City Lionesses on penalties following a dramatic 2–2 draw at the Copperjax Community Stadium.

Dutch goalkeeper Lize Kop proved decisive in the shootout, saving the 18th spot-kick to secure Spurs’ passage and set up a last-eight tie against holders Chelsea Women.

Fast Start from Spurs

The visitors made a bright opening and took the lead inside ten minutes. Olivia Holdt drove towards the edge of the area before later threading an incisive through-ball into the path of Matilda Vinberg, who calmly slotted past goalkeeper Elene Lete after just seven minutes.

London City responded with intent. Freya Godfrey embarked on a weaving run before seeing her effort blocked, while Sanni Franssi combined with Nikita Parris, whose attempt was well defended.

Spurs nearly doubled their advantage on 40 minutes when Hanna Wijk delivered a low cross to Cathinka Tandberg, but the Norwegian fired narrowly over. At the other end, Parris was denied by an outstanding point-blank save from Kop to ensure the visitors led at the interval.

London City Turn the Tie Around

Tottenham thought they had extended their lead shortly after the restart when Vinberg turned provider for Tandberg, only for the latter to be ruled offside.

Instead, the hosts struck twice in quick succession. Lucía Corrales surged down the left and delivered a precise cross for substitute Daniëlle van de Donk to convert on 58 minutes — her first goal for the club.

Moments later, Corrales claimed her second assist as Jana Fernández curled a superb effort from outside the area into the net, giving head coach Eder Maestre’s side a 2–1 advantage.

Spurs manager Martin Ho responded with a triple substitution, introducing Beth England, Lenna Gunning-Williams and Amanda Nildén in a bid to regain momentum.

England Forces Extra Time

Despite mounting late pressure, Tottenham appeared destined for elimination as Molly Bartrip headed wide and Wijk dragged an effort off target.

However, deep into stoppage time, Spurs were awarded a penalty after Teyah Goldie was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area. England converted confidently to level the contest and force extra time.

Neither side could find a decisive breakthrough during the additional 30 minutes, with Izzy Goodwin and Nildén both seeing opportunities thwarted.

Kop Seals Progress from the Spot

The penalty shootout proved equally enthralling, with the first eight spot-kicks from each side successfully converted.

Having dispatched her own effort, Kop stepped forward once more and produced the crucial save to deny Wassa Sangaré, ensuring Tottenham advanced to the quarter-finals.

Spurs will now prepare for a challenging encounter against Chelsea as they continue their pursuit of domestic silverware.
