Liverpool’s pursuit of a new striker has been given a significant boost following developments surrounding Hugo Ekitike, as Chelsea appear to have scuppered the Reds’ chances of landing Alexander Isak.
Liverpool Receive £25m Transfer Boost After Alexander Isak Setback as Chelsea Close in on Surprise Deal

The Merseyside club have already invested over £200 million in the current summer transfer window, bringing in Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman. Giorgi Mamardashvili, whose move was agreed last summer, has also joined the squad.
Despite their substantial outlay, Liverpool are still eager to strengthen further. New manager Arne Slot is prioritising the addition of a top-class striker to bolster his attack and defend the Premier League title next season. One name reportedly high on Liverpool’s list is 23-year-old French forward Hugo Ekitike of Eintracht Frankfurt.
The France Under-21 international has long been linked with a move to Anfield, and recent reports suggest the Reds have renewed their interest. According to German outlet Bild, Liverpool have formally informed Frankfurt of their desire to bring in a new centre-forward this summer.
Although discussions with the player’s representatives have taken place previously, negotiations with Frankfurt have yet to commence. However, the Bundesliga side appear to be preparing for Ekitike’s potential departure, having opened talks to sign Franjo Ivanović from Union SG as a likely replacement. That deal is reportedly worth £25 million.
Liverpool Exploring Ekitike as Isak Alternative
Frankfurt are said to be demanding in the region of £85 million for Ekitike, who impressed last season with 15 goals and eight assists in 33 Bundesliga appearances. Arsenal are also reportedly monitoring the striker, having failed in their attempts to land Viktor Gyökeres or Benjamin Šeško.
While Alexander Isak remains Liverpool’s primary target, signing the prolific Swede may prove complicated. Newcastle United are reluctant to part ways with their star striker and have encountered difficulties in securing a replacement.
In a separate development, Chelsea are believed to have agreed terms with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign João Pedro for a fee in excess of £50 million. The move, reported by The Athletic and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, comes as a blow to Newcastle, who were also targeting the Brazilian forward.
Chelsea’s acquisition of Pedro could directly affect Liverpool’s chase for Isak, as Newcastle may be unwilling to sell without lining up a suitable successor.
Isak Keen to Leave, but Newcastle Hold Firm
Reports on Monday indicated that Isak is open to leaving St James’ Park this summer. The Swedish international has scored an impressive 62 goals in 109 appearances for the Magpies, attracting attention from several top clubs.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio confirmed Newcastle’s concerns, stating that the striker has made clear his desire to move on. Nevertheless, the club are under no financial pressure to sell, with Isak still having three years remaining on his current contract. Any potential deal would require a substantial fee.
