Liverpool’s injury list continues to grow after their 3–2 defeat to Brentford on Saturday evening, with Curtis Jones adding to the Reds’ mounting fitness concerns.

The Bees made a blistering start, taking the lead in the fifth minute before doubling their advantage shortly before half-time. Milos Kerkez reduced the deficit, but a contentious penalty restored Brentford’s two-goal cushion at 3–1. Mohamed Salah then struck a stunning volley to give Liverpool hope, yet the visitors could not find an equaliser, slipping to their fourth consecutive Premier League defeat.

Gravenberch and Isak Miss Out Through Injury

Liverpool were already without Alexander Isak and Ryan Gravenberch, both of whom missed the clash through injury. Gravenberch, who also sat out the midweek Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt, was not deemed fit to travel, while Isak — withdrawn during that European fixture — played no part in West London.

Their absences dealt another setback to Arne Slot’s side as their hopes of retaining the Premier League title took another blow.

Curtis Jones Adds to Liverpool’s Growing Injury Concerns

Liverpool’s problems deepened when Curtis Jones was forced off in the second half after picking up a knock. Manager Arne Slot later confirmed that the midfielder had requested to be substituted.

“We have to wait and see,” Slot told reporters. “He asked to be taken off, but he walked off rather than needing a lot of treatment, so we’ll assess him. There are many games ahead — in three or four days, there’s another one.”

The Reds are already without Jeremie Frimpong and Alisson Becker, both sidelined with hamstring injuries expected to keep them out for several weeks. Giovanni Leoni also remains unavailable for the rest of the season after suffering an ACL injury.

Jones’ potential absence leaves Liverpool short in midfield, increasing the workload on remaining players during a congested fixture schedule. The Reds face Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, Real Madrid and Manchester City within the next two weeks before the international break.

Slot Reflects on Liverpool’s Form and Tactical Struggles

Reflecting on his team’s fourth consecutive league defeat, Arne Slot acknowledged the challenges his side faces both tactically and mentally.

“I’ve said many times that teams adopt a certain playing style against us — and it’s an effective strategy,” Slot admitted. “We haven’t yet found the right response. Going 1–0 down so early doesn’t help either.

“Even when we don’t play well, we’re still capable of scoring and creating chances, but we’re conceding far too many goals. That’s not just down to the defence — it’s something we do collectively as eleven players.

“Of course, if you make several changes over the summer, it can be a bit of a bumpy road. But four losses in a row — I didn’t expect that. Also, five of our last six matches have been away, and that’s never ideal when you’re trying to regain form.”

Liverpool now face a crucial period as they look to recover both form and fitness, with injuries threatening to derail their campaign just weeks before the season’s midpoint.
