Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi has announced his resignation just days after suffering a devastating defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final.
Inter Milan Boss Inzaghi Resigns Days After PSG Rout in Champions League Final

“The time has come for me to say goodbye to this club after a run of four years during which I gave everything,” Inzaghi wrote in a farewell letter to Inter supporters published on the club’s official website.
The 5–0 thrashing by PSG at the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening marked the heaviest defeat in a final in the 70-year history of Europe’s premier club competition.
Achraf Hakimi and Désiré Doué struck within the opening 20 minutes. Doué added his second – and PSG’s third – in the 63rd minute, before Ousmane Dembélé teed up Khvicha Kvaratskhelia for a fourth just 10 minutes later. Senny Mayulu completed the demolition in the 86th minute.
Inzaghi guided Inter to the Serie A title in 2024, but the campaign ended in disappointment. In April, they were eliminated in the Coppa Italia semi-finals by city rivals AC Milan. Then, just a week prior to the Champions League final, Napoli clinched the league title by a single point.
“Every day, my first and last thought was always about Inter,” Inzaghi added.
“It was then reciprocated with professionalism and passion by the players, the leadership, and every single employee at the club. The six trophies we secured, including the Second-Star Scudetto, along with our Champions League campaigns in 2023 and just a few days ago, are evidence of how much my work was embraced through shared commitment with my staff and all parts of the club.”
The 49-year-old continued with a heartfelt message:
“I want to dedicate one last word to the millions of Nerazzurri fans who supported me – those who wept and struggled during our lows, and then rejoiced in the six triumphs we experienced together. I will never forget you. Forza Inter.”
Uncertainty Looms
With Inzaghi’s departure, it remains unclear who will lead the squad at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, which begins on 14 June. Inter are scheduled to begin their campaign against Monterrey on 17 June.
While Inzaghi prepared his farewell, PSG were celebrating their historic first Champions League triumph. On Sunday afternoon, the newly crowned champions held a victory parade along the Champs-Élysées in central Paris, followed by a reception with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The celebrations continued as the squad presented the trophy to fans at the Parc des Princes in a son et lumière spectacle, commemorating a remarkable clean sweep of four major titles.
Luis Enrique’s side lifted the French Super Cup in January and secured the Ligue 1 championship in April for a record 13th time. On 24 May, they sealed their dominance by defeating Reims to win the Coupe de France for a record-extending 16th occasion.
PSG will begin their Club World Cup campaign on 15 June against Atlético Madrid in Los Angeles.
