Hundreds Arrested as PSG Champions League Celebrations Descend into Disorder Across France

French authorities arrested hundreds of people across the country during celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain's UEFA Champions League triumph, after incidents of violence and public disorder were reported in several cities.

PSG supporters took to the streets on Saturday night after the French champions successfully defended their European crown with a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Arsenal in Budapest.

While thousands of fans celebrated peacefully, authorities confirmed that disturbances occurred in Paris and numerous other locations across France, resulting in widespread arrests and several injuries.

Hundreds Detained Nationwide

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez revealed that by early Sunday morning, 426 people had been arrested across the country, including 238 in Paris alone.

He also confirmed that seven police officers sustained injuries during operations linked to the celebrations, with one officer seriously injured in the city of Agen.

The incidents prompted a significant police response as authorities worked to restore order in affected areas.

Disorder Reported in Multiple Cities

According to French officials, disturbances were recorded in approximately 15 cities, including Rennes, Clermont-Ferrand, Grenoble and Toulouse.

Reports indicated that some groups were involved in acts of vandalism, with damage caused to businesses, vehicles and public infrastructure.

Authorities said emergency services and law enforcement personnel were deployed throughout the night to manage crowds and respond to incidents as they unfolded.

Paris Celebrations Marred by Arrests

In the French capital, thousands of PSG supporters gathered along the Champs-Élysées and other major locations to celebrate the club's latest European success.

Police carried out numerous arrests during the evening and confiscated fireworks, pyrotechnic devices and other prohibited items.

Large security operations were implemented to maintain public safety amid the vast crowds that filled the city centre following the final whistle.

Police Respond to Unrest in Toulouse

Further incidents were reported in Toulouse, where groups of individuals allegedly damaged shopfronts and other property during the celebrations.

According to reports, police officers intervened to disperse crowds and restore order, with tear gas deployed in certain areas.

Several arrests were also made as part of the operation.

Victory Parade Planned in Paris

Despite the disturbances, celebrations are expected to continue on Sunday with a major victory parade planned in Paris.

Authorities anticipate tens of thousands of supporters will attend the event to celebrate PSG's latest European achievement.

French President Emmanuel Macron is also expected to welcome the squad to the Élysée Palace as part of official celebrations recognising the club's success.

PSG Retain European Crown

Paris Saint-Germain secured their second consecutive UEFA Champions League title after defeating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw after extra time at Budapest's Puskás Aréna.

The victory further strengthened PSG's growing reputation as one of Europe's dominant footballing forces and marked another historic chapter in the club's recent success.

However, celebrations that should have been focused solely on sporting achievement were overshadowed in some areas by scenes of disorder, prompting renewed discussions about crowd management and public safety during major football celebrations.
