Barcelona have firmly rejected a player-exchange proposal from Chelsea involving Fermin Lopez, one of La Masia’s most promising graduates, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Spanish international, who enjoyed a breakout season with eight goals and ten assists in 46 appearances, has attracted significant attention from across Europe. Chelsea are understood to be particularly keen on the 21-year-old and reportedly submitted a substantial offer, including a swap deal.

Chelsea Offer Nkunku in Exchange for Fermin
As per the report, the Blues were willing to offer Christopher Nkunku in exchange for Fermin – a proposal described as “tempting” but ultimately dismissed outright by senior Barcelona figures, including club president Joan Laporta and manager Hansi Flick.

Despite Nkunku’s undeniable attacking quality and the Catalan club’s own intention to strengthen their forward line, Barcelona refused to entertain the deal. Flick, in particular, is said to view Fermin as an integral part of his plans for the upcoming season.

No Intention to Sell
Barcelona’s reluctance to part with the versatile midfielder comes amid growing speculation surrounding their interest in Liverpool’s Luis Díaz, who remains a top priority for the club. However, any such reinforcements will not come at the expense of Fermin.

The young Spaniard is considered not only technically gifted but also tactically adaptable, making him a valuable long-term asset. Nkunku, by contrast, is seen more as an out-and-out goalscoring forward, rather than a like-for-like alternative.

As it stands, Barcelona will only consider a transfer if Fermin Lopez himself expresses a desire to leave, perhaps to secure more consistent playing time ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Until then, the Blaugrana are resolute – Fermin Lopez is not for sale.
