Chelsea have seen a €50 million (£42.8 million) follow-up offer for winger Jamie Gittens rejected by Borussia Dortmund, sources have told ESPN. The Premier League side have also ended negotiations to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan.

The west London club are keen to bolster their attacking options this summer and had previously seen an initial bid of around €35.5 million (£30.4 million) turned down by the Bundesliga outfit.

According to sources, 20-year-old Gittens is open to a move to Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea were looking to finalise a deal swiftly in order to register him for the FIFA Club World Cup, with the deadline set for Tuesday.

Gittens has made 48 appearances for Dortmund across all competitions this season, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists.

The winger is a former Manchester City academy player, and the Premier League champions retain a clause entitling them to 10% of any future transfer fee, as part of the deal that saw him move to Germany in 2020.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will not be signing goalkeeper Mike Maignan ahead of the Club World Cup. The Blues, under new head coach Enzo Maresca, were encouraged to explore a move for the 29-year-old after learning he was open to joining Chelsea and might be available at a reduced fee due to having just one year remaining on his current contract.

However, sources have indicated that Milan were demanding as much as €30 million (£25.7 million) for the France international — a valuation Chelsea were unwilling to meet, considering the short duration left on his deal.

Sources further stated that while Chelsea remain open to signing a new goalkeeper, the position is not considered a priority at present, with five senior goalkeepers already on their books.
