Michael Olise struck a decisive goal in the 84th minute to hand Bayern Munich a hard-fought 2–1 victory over Boca Juniors on Friday in Miami Gardens, Florida, sending the Bundesliga champions through to the knockout stage of the Club World Cup.

The winner came following a moment of pressure inside the box, where Harry Kane managed to keep possession and tee up Olise. The Frenchman made no mistake, drilling his shot into the bottom left-hand corner.

Boca had drawn level midway through the second half thanks to a composed finish by Miguel Merentiel, cancelling out Kane’s earlier opener in the first 45 minutes.

Having cruised past semi-professional side Auckland City with a 10–0 thrashing in their opening Group C encounter, Bayern (W2 D0 L0, 6 points) faced a considerably sterner test against the Argentine giants.

Despite the defeat, Boca Juniors (W0 D1 L1, 1 point) are not yet out of contention. However, their progression now depends on a substantial win over Auckland City in Nashville on Tuesday, coupled with a Bayern victory over Benfica (W1 D1 L0, 4 points) on the same day in Charlotte.

Merentiel’s equaliser was crafted from a long-range through ball by Alan Velasco, which split Bayern’s defence. The forward outpaced Jonathan Tah, sidestepped Josip Stanišić, and delivered a superb right-footed finish from just outside the six-yard box, lifting the ball over a stranded Manuel Neuer.

Bayern’s opener was a moment of quality. Konrad Laimer threaded a pass into the Boca area, where Kingsley Coman deftly laid it off for Kane. Although the striker's first touch was heavy, he recovered well to guide a powerful left-footed effort past the goalkeeper from close range.
