Bonnie Tyler is reportedly still receiving intensive medical treatment in Portugal after suffering severe complications following emergency surgery for a burst appendix.

According to Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, the 74-year-old singer allegedly went into cardiac arrest while doctors attempted to bring her out of an induced coma, prompting medical staff to resuscitate her during a critical stage of her recovery.
The Welsh music icon is currently being treated in the intensive care unit at Hospital de Faro, where she remains under close observation as doctors work to control a serious infection reportedly caused by a perforated intestine.
Emergency Surgery After Sudden Illness
Tyler, best known for hit songs including Total Eclipse of the Heart and Holding Out for a Hero, is understood to have initially fallen ill while performing in London several weeks ago.
Family friend Liberto Mealha revealed that the singer sought medical tests in the United Kingdom after feeling unwell, although no serious issue was reportedly identified at the time.
She later travelled to Portugal, where she owns a home in the Algarve region, before her condition deteriorated significantly.
Mealha explained that Tyler began suffering severe abdominal pain shortly after arriving in Portugal and was eventually taken to a private hospital before being urgently transferred to Faro Hospital for emergency surgery after doctors discovered her appendix had ruptured.
Reports in Portugal claim the singer had been bedridden for two days before her husband, Robert Sullivan, took her to hospital for treatment.
Representatives Confirm Surgery
A spokesperson for Tyler previously confirmed that the singer had undergone emergency intestinal surgery.
“We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery,” the statement said.
“The surgery went well and she is now recuperating.”
The spokesperson later confirmed that Tyler had been placed in an induced coma to support her recovery following complications from the operation.
Her representatives have not publicly commented on reports concerning the alleged cardiac arrest.
Doctors ‘Positive’ About Recovery
Despite the seriousness of her condition, Mealha stated that doctors remain hopeful Tyler can make a full recovery.
He also praised the medical staff treating the singer, revealing that her husband has remained by her bedside throughout the ordeal.
According to Mealha, Sullivan believes the swift medical intervention in Portugal may have saved her life.
Support Floods In From Fans
Fans from around the world have continued to send messages of support and encouragement to the veteran performer across social media platforms.
Many well-wishers praised the care provided by Faro Hospital, while others expressed hope that the singer would make a full and speedy recovery.
Tyler, who represented the Eurovision Song Contest 2013 for the United Kingdom, remains one of Britain’s most recognisable musical figures after decades of international success.
Medical professionals note that a ruptured appendix can become life-threatening if not treated quickly, as infection can spread rapidly throughout the abdomen once the appendix bursts.
