A Sporting Lisbon supporter broke down in tears when asked about the manager’s anticipated move to Manchester United.
Moment Sporting Lisbon Supporter Breaks Down in Tears Upon Hearing Ruben Amorim is Moving to Manchester United as Red Devils Trigger £8.3m Release Clause

The fan, visibly distraught, covered his face and needed to be consoled by a reporter outside the Estádio José Alvalade on Tuesday afternoon.
Manchester United have agreed to pay Amorim’s £8.3 million release clause to bring him to Old Trafford, Sporting announced on Tuesday.
This move would see Sporting lose a manager who led them to two Portuguese league titles—the first in 2020 after a 19-year drought—and three Portuguese League Cups.
The bond Amorim has built with the club's fans over the past four years was evident in the interview, where the emotional supporter could only respond in a strained, high-pitched voice.
Mail Sport exclusively reported on Tuesday afternoon that the main complication in securing Amorim from the Portuguese capital is his notice period—a technicality more commonly associated with standard employment contracts.
If an agreement cannot be reached for an early departure, Amorim will not be available to lead United against Chelsea on Sunday.
In fact, there is a chance Amorim, who won consecutive titles in Portugal, might not take charge until United face Ipswich Town on 24th November.
Ahead of Tuesday night’s Portuguese League Cup match against Nacional, Amorim laughed off questions about his future and refrained from making any definitive comments.
“I anticipated that question, but I’m obviously not going to discuss my future,” he said. “No matter what I say, I’d always end up discussing it.”
“I am very proud to be Sporting’s head coach.”
One could hardly blame anyone for finding this accelerated recruitment process something of a whirlwind.
Only on Monday morning was Erik ten Hag dismissed by the club. Having returned to the Netherlands on a conveniently available private jet, he is now overshadowed by the wave of headlines about Amorim.
The Dutchman was dismissed with Manchester United sitting in 14th place, following the club’s worst-ever Premier League finish of eighth.
In his first season, he led the club to third place and won both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. Ruud van Nistelrooy, hired as his assistant during the summer, now takes on the role of interim manager.
Mail Sport understands that the squad was informed of Ten Hag’s dismissal simultaneously with the public announcement. Captain Bruno Fernandes was the first to respond.
“Thanks for everything, boss!” he posted on Instagram. “I appreciate the trust and the moments we shared together. I wish you all the best in the future.
“Even though the recent period hasn’t been great for any of us, I hope the fans remember the good things the manager has achieved for our club!”
Rasmus Hojlund also expressed his gratitude to Ten Hag on social media. He posted on his Instagram stories, “Thanks for everything, boss. Wishing you all the best in the future.”
Alejandro Garnacho followed suit, saying, “Thank you for everything, boss. I will always be grateful for the opportunity and confidence you gave me to play for this club.
“It hasn’t gone as well as we had hoped, but I will cherish the good times we shared, and I wish you all the best in the future.”
Kobbie Mainoo expressed his thanks as well, saying, “Thank you for your trust in me and for giving me the chance to play for my boyhood club. Wishing you the best for the future.”
Diogo Dalot, who missed a crucial chance against West Ham in Ten Hag’s final match, added, “It’s truly disappointing things didn’t work out as we all wished, boss.
“Thank you for everything you’ve done for me and this club. Wishing you all the best!”
