The fire brigade in Munich reported that a 20-year-old construction worker was struck by one of the carriages at full speed during a test run and sustained severe injuries. Despite treatment at the scene and ongoing resuscitation efforts en route to the hospital, the worker did not survive.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Peter Bausch, chairman of the Munich Funfair Operator Association, expressed his sorrow, stating, "It is a tragic accident. That a young person has died is the most terrible thing." Similarly, Yvonne Heckl, a funfair operator, described the situation as shocking and heartbreaking. She said, "It is news that pulls the ground out from under your feet — a drama for the family, the operator, and everyone else involved." Heckl emphasized that the fairground community, referring to themselves as one big "Wiesn family," deeply empathizes with the victim's relatives and those affected.

As preparations for the festival continue, Heckl highlighted the rigorous safety measures in place at Oktoberfest. She noted, "In general, we have the highest safety standards, but there is no such thing as complete safety — we must not be deceived," underscoring the ongoing commitment to safety despite the tragic event.
