Scott Cam, host of The Block, has stressed the importance of sun safety for builders after his battle with skin cancer. Years of outdoor work as a builder have left him with skin damage and 'spots' on his hands and arms. Scott is partnering with SafetyCulture to distribute free sunscreen to tradies as part of a national campaign promoting sun protection. He aims to raise awareness about sun safety, particularly among construction workers, while also valuing family time and looking forward to travelling with his wife now that their children are adults.

Scott Cam has opened up about his battle against skin cancer, highlighting the importance of sun safety for builders.

The host of The Block, aged 61, revealed that he has developed 'spots' on his hands and arms due to prolonged exposure to the sun during his years as a builder working outdoors on construction sites.

Scott, who spent two decades as a builder before transitioning to a media career with lifestyle show Backyard Blitz in 2000, explained to Nine that he now deals with permanent skin damage.

"I've got spots all over my hands and forearms because I used to wear roll-up sleeves, leaving my hands exposed," he explained.

"We really need to use sunscreen on our hands and arms. Nowadays, everyone is wearing appropriate clothing, but their hands and arms are still exposed."

The former builder, now a television presenter, has joined forces with OH&S organisation SafetyCulture to raise awareness about skin cancer prevention among Australian tradies.

As part of a new national campaign promoting sun safety, Scott will distribute free sunscreen to tradies working outdoors. He hopes this initiative will integrate sun protection into tradies' daily routines.

"People apply sunscreen at the beach, but not at work. We need to change that habit," he emphasised.

"While tradies focus on safety gear like scaffolding rails, harnesses, work boots, eye protection, and ear protection, they often overlook the sun, which is their constant and most significant exposure."

Beyond his television commitments on The Block, Scott Cam is a dedicated family man and father of three.

In a 2017 interview with TV Week, Cam discussed his close-knit family, highlighting how they inspire his work on the show.

"We're a very close family. We always do activities together. Every Sunday, we all go for a swim and have breakfast together," he shared.

Scott also mentioned that now that their children are adults, he looks forward to taking trips with his wife Ann, without the kids.
