Ghana's Mahama Appoints First Ministers
Ghana's new president, John Dramani Mahama, has announced his key cabinet appointments, appointing Cassiel Ato Forson as Finance Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor as Energy Minister, and Dominic Akuritinga Ayine as Attorney General and Justice Minister.
Sworn into office earlier this week on Tuesday, Mahama had promised during his campaign to appoint all cabinet ministers within his first 14 days in office while maintaining a lean cabinet structure.
Having previously served as president from 2012 to 2017, Mahama has committed to focusing on economic recovery, stability, and growth. He also aims to enhance the business and investment environment while tackling corruption as part of his administration's priorities.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mahama's party, commands a two-thirds majority in Parliament, which will ease the approval process for his ministerial nominees.
The Finance Minister nominee, Cassiel Ato Forson, is a 46-year-old chartered accountant and legislator who previously held the position of Deputy Finance Minister during Mahama's first term.
John Abdulai Jinapor, nominated as Energy Minister, is a Ghanaian politician who also served as Minister of Energy during Mahama's earlier presidency.
Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the nominee for Attorney General and Justice Minister, has been a member of Parliament for the Bolgatanga East Constituency since 2013 and is an active member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He has previously served as Deputy Minister for Justice and Deputy Attorney General.
