The Football Association of Wales (FAW) is honouring and celebrating the pioneering Welsh players who represented the women’s national team during the 1970s and 1980s, before the team came under FAW affiliation.

The cap presentation will occur at a special event at St Fagan’s Museum on the evening of Friday, 4 October.

The FAW has records of 27 matches played between 1973 and 1993, before the FAW-affiliated team played its first fixture against Iceland at Afan Lido. Since then, Wales have progressed significantly, with more than 200 matches played and the team set to compete in their first UEFA EURO play-off fixture in October. This progress was paved by the efforts of those who played in the 1970s and 1980s.

Over the past 18 months, the FAW has worked to contact former players from that era to honour and celebrate their contributions. As part of this initiative, players were invited to a pre-match celebration when Cymru faced Iceland at Cardiff City Stadium last December.

With the assistance of former player Michele Adams MBE and historian John Carrier, among others, 94 players from the era have been identified, and contact details have been obtained for 44 of them. The FAW is now calling on the public to help find the remaining contact details for players or their families to ensure their successes are celebrated.

If you have contact details for any of the players or their family members listed below, please contact [email protected]. For those unable to attend the presentation evening on Friday, 4 October, the FAW will consider arranging the delivery of caps.
