President Bola Tinubu made the announcement of the creation of the Ministry of Livestock Development on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, President Tinubu announced the establishment of the Ministry of Livestock Development during the inauguration of the Renewed Hope Livestock Reform Implementation Committee at the Council Chambers of the State House in Abuja.

Chairing the committee himself, Mr. Tinubu appointed Attahiru Jega as the deputy or co-chair. He emphasized the transformative potential of this initiative, stating, "This presents a unique opportunity to delineate and establish a separate ministry called the Ministry of Livestock Development. We will develop the economy and give people the opportunity to excel."

He highlighted the importance of veterinary doctors in enhancing livestock management practices, advocating for advancements in breeding and feed production to mitigate conflicts and bolster the economy.

Vice President Kashim Shettima, Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, and the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, among others, attended the inauguration.

In response, the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) praised President Tinubu for creating the Ministry of Livestock Development. President Baba Othman-Ngelzarma expressed optimism that the ministry would unleash Nigeria's trillion-naira livestock economy, creating high-quality jobs throughout the value chain and enhancing food security.

He affirmed MACBAN's commitment to supporting the government in transforming livestock production into a major foreign exchange earner and resolving farmer-herder conflicts and associated security issues.
