Feyenoord manager Arne Slot has indicated that he anticipates an announcement about his future shortly, as he gets ready to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

The Reds reached an agreement with Slot last month and finalised a €15m (£12.9m) deal with Feyenoord to secure the Dutch manager and several of his coaching staff, allowing them to refocus on on-field matters.

Liverpool returned to winning form on Sunday with a 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur, and Slot admitted he caught the beginning of the match before taking his Feyenoord team to face PEC Zwolle.

"I managed to see a few minutes of the game before heading to the stadium," he said. "That first goal was exceptional. It was a strong performance from Liverpool. Once the official announcement is made and I move there, I'll be watching a lot of their matches.

"In life, opportunities arise, and you have to listen. I've made that decision for myself. In the coming days and weeks, the announcement will be made.

"Last year, I chose to stay, but now I've likely made a different decision."

He added: "I'm not concerned about whether it will happen – it's more about when it will be announced."

Following Feyenoord's 5-0 victory over PEC Zwolle, Slot was seen bidding farewell to fans in the stands with his face displayed on screens around the stadium, and he acknowledged that it felt like a natural goodbye.

"I agree, it did seem like that," he remarked. "Given all the media speculation, I think they expect me to leave. Yes, that's fair to say."

Slot also mentioned that, should he secure the Liverpool role, he would gladly take up Klopp's offer of seeking advice over a phone call.

"If you're moving to a new club, especially one like Liverpool, it's customary to reach out to the former manager," Slot explained. "I did the same when I joined Feyenoord.

"It's perfectly normal to tap into the wealth of experience someone has gained after spending several years at the club – in Klopp's case, nine years. Additionally, I'm acquainted with his assistant, Pepijn Lijnders. When the official confirmation arrives after the season, it would be odd not to give him a call then."
