Trump Set to Attend FIFA World Cup Finals Draw on Friday

The White House confirmed on Monday that United States President Donald Trump will attend the draw for the FIFA World Cup finals in Washington later this week

The US will co-host the 2026 tournament alongside Canada and Mexico.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters:

“On Friday, President Trump will attend the FIFA World Cup final draw at the Kennedy Center.”

Trump has positioned the World Cup as a flagship event of his second term in office and a major highlight of the upcoming celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.

However, preparations for the global tournament have not been free from political turbulence. Trump’s hardline positions on several domestic issues have increasingly intersected with the build-up to the competition.

The Republican president has suggested the possibility of relocating matches from certain US host cities, citing concerns over crime and what he alleges to be high levels of illegal migration in some Democratic-governed areas.
