Mohamed Salah has launched a remarkable tirade against Liverpool, alleging that the club has “thrown me under the bus” and that “someone doesn’t want me here”. The Egyptian forward was left out of the starting line-up for Liverpool’s dramatic 3–3 draw with Leeds United on Saturday evening, and his post-match comments have sent shockwaves through Anfield.
Mohamed Salah Accuses Liverpool of ‘Throwing Him Under the Bus’ in Explosive Outburst
The 33-year-old, who signed a fresh two-year deal in April before lifting his second Premier League title with the club, claimed he now has no working relationship with head coach Arne Slot. Salah also hinted strongly that he may look to depart Liverpool during the January transfer window.
Salah: “I’ve been benched three times — it feels deliberate”
Speaking after the match, the forward expressed disbelief at being left out of the team for the full 90 minutes:
“I couldn’t believe it. I’m on the bench for 90 minutes. I think this is the third time — the first in my career,”
Salah said.
“I’m extremely disappointed. I’ve given everything to this club over the years, especially last season.”
The forward went on to claim that he feels isolated and unfairly targeted:
“It looks like the club are throwing me under the bus. It’s very clear someone wants me to take the blame.”
Salah then accused the club of failing to honour assurances they gave him in the summer:
“The club made a lot of promises to me. Nothing has been kept, and now I’m on the bench for three matches. They didn’t keep their word.”
Breakdown with Slot
Salah suggested that his relationship with Arne Slot has deteriorated suddenly and without explanation:
“I’ve said many times I had a good relationship with the manager — and suddenly we have no relationship. I don’t understand why.”
He also implied that he no longer feels protected or supported internally:
“If I were somewhere else, the club would defend its player. Here, it feels like they want me out.”
“It’s like they throw Mo under the bus, as if I’m the problem — and I don’t believe that.”
“I’ve earned my place — I shouldn’t have to fight for it daily”
Salah insisted that, based on his achievements, he deserves more respect:
“I’ve done so much for this club to deserve respect. I shouldn’t have to fight every day for my position — I’ve earned it over many years.”
He dismissed claims that he believes he is bigger than the club:
“People will say you’re not bigger than the club. I know that. But I earn my place — that’s football.”
Future uncertain — and hints at a possible January exit
When asked whether he might look to move on in January, Salah offered a cryptic response:
“In football, you never know. But I don’t accept this situation.”
He refused to comment on speculation regarding a move to the Saudi Pro League:
“I won’t answer that, because the club will twist it. After everything I’ve done here, this really hurts.”
Salah also acknowledged that he expects media criticism, particularly from former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher:
“Tomorrow Carragher will go for me again, and that’s fine. I’ve scored more goals and made more assists than anyone in my generation since I came to the Premier League. If I were somewhere else, the club would defend me publicly. Here, I’m alone.”
Salah compares his treatment to Harry Kane’s
Salah concluded with a comparison to the media’s defence of Tottenham and England striker Harry Kane:
“A while back, Harry Kane went ten games without scoring and everyone said, ‘Harry will score, don’t worry.’
With me, it’s: ‘Put Mo on the bench.’
I’m sorry, Harry — but that’s how it is.”
