FC Barcelona delivered one of their most fluent attacking performances of the season as they triumphed 5–3 over an in-form Real Betis side in La Liga on Saturday. While Ferran Torres stole the headlines with a superb hat-trick, the collective display from Hansi Flick’s men offered plenty of positives for the German head coach.
Hansi Flick Reflects on Torres, Yamal, Bardghji and Barcelona’s Overall Display After 5–3 Victory Over Real Betis
Speaking after the match, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, Flick expressed his satisfaction with the performance, although he acknowledged that fatigue became evident during the latter stages:
“I felt the first half was excellent, but in the second half the team were tired. Defensively, we struggled to control the final minutes. Even so, I prefer to take the positives, although we will analyse everything. What matters is that we secured the win.”
Flick praises determination and resilience
The Barcelona manager emphasised his admiration for his squad’s attitude, especially after falling behind early on:
“I’m very pleased with the team. They reacted well after conceding first. They produced a fantastic first half and finished the match exhausted. They fought for the full 90 minutes, and I value that immensely.”
A significant win against a technically gifted opponent
Flick highlighted the importance of winning against a side of Betis’ quality:
“Winning is always vital, but doing so against a team of this calibre, very technical and full of talented players, is never straightforward. The way we played in the first half was extremely encouraging.”
Yamal’s growing defensive maturity
The German coach also applauded Lamine Yamal’s progress, particularly his improved work without the ball:
“He performed very well, including defensively. He worked in harmony with the rest of the team. He is one of several options we have in the attacking midfield role. He has matured a lot and continues to improve on the defensive side. He’s a fantastic professional.”
Roony Bardghji’s memorable night
It was also a noteworthy evening for Roony Bardghji, who not only earned a starting place but also found the back of the net. Flick explained how the decision to start the young Swedish forward came about:
“It was one of the options we discussed. We asked him whether he felt comfortable playing there, and he agreed immediately. He was delighted… He provides us with many possibilities.”
Ferran Torres receives high praise after hat-trick heroics
Unsurprisingly, Flick had strong words of admiration for Ferran Torres, who produced one of his finest displays in a Barcelona shirt:
“He is an exceptionally intelligent player. He interprets space brilliantly, and today he executed everything perfectly. His mentality and confidence are outstanding. This is the standard he must maintain. He fully deserves his place in the starting line-up. He always delivers when called upon. This stadium seems to be his stadium — even with the national team he has scored a hat-trick here.”
Flick pleased with progress but demands more
Although generally satisfied, the Barcelona boss made it clear that the team must continue improving:
“My focus is always on training. If you operate at 70–80%, you will play like that in matches. The intensity this week has been excellent, and I believe this is the right path based on what we’ve seen. We go step by step. We’ll enjoy this win, but attention now turns to Tuesday’s match at home against Frankfurt.”
Barcelona’s victory was undoubtedly one of their most encouraging performances this season, but the challenges ahead will demand consistency. Flick will be hoping his side can sustain this level as they continue to navigate a demanding schedule.
