Liverpool And Manchester United Fans Hold Truce For Cristiano Ronaldo After Announcing The Death Of His Newborn Son

Manchester United's leading man Cristiano Ronaldo and his partner Georgina Rodriguez announced the death of his newborn son shortly before their FA Cup match with rival club Liverpool who'd beaten Nottingham Forest to get to United.

The couple were expecting twins, and though their baby daughter survived, his newborn son was stillborn.

In a statement made to Twitter, Ronaldo and Rodriguez said: “It is with great sadness that we have to announce that our new baby boy has passed away, we were looking forward to having twins after announcing the news of Georgina's pregnancy in October last year.

We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for your privacy at this time”.

The Manchester United Twitter account stated: “Your pain is our pain, sending love and strength towards your family during this very difficult time”.

Fellow teammate and activist Marcus Rashford messaged the Portuguese star by saying: “My thoughts are with you and Georgina brother, I'm so sorry”.

MU later confirmed that Ronaldo would sit out for their FA cup match against Liverpool, the news left fans of both clubs devastated.

When the two teams finally faced off at Anfield, both United and Liverpool fans led a one minute applause for the Man United star in solidarity.

Ronaldo later tweeted: “I thank all the fans at Manchester United and Liverpool FC for setting aside their differences and sending their best wishes to me and my family”.

Players of both clubs also showed solidarity by wearing black arm bands.

Liverpool won against Man United 4-0.
