Congolese footballer Jody Lukoki has died suddenly at the age of 29, his cause of death is yet to be revealed.
Born
in Zaire during the reign of Mobutu Sese Seko before the First Congo
War, Lukoki and his family emigrated from war torn Zaire to The
Netherlands and soon enough he was trying out for VVA/Spartaan.
Between
2002 and 2003, the Son of the Wind competed in the Dutch youth
leagues before joining Ajax which lasted until he was loaned to SC
Cambuur in 2013.
Whilst
at Ajax, Lukoki made 39 game appearances and shot 5 goals.
Between
2003 when he signed to Ajax and 2021 when he left Turkish football
team Yeni Malatyaspor, Lukoki made 274 game appearances and 41 goals.
Since
he was a duel citizen of The Netherlands and DR Congo, Lukoki was one
of a handful of footballers who were able to play for more than one
national team at senior level.
From
2010 to 2013 he played for the Dutch national football team, and from
2015 to 2020 he played for the DR Congolese national football team.
Across
the European, Turkish, and African footballing world, millions have
paid tribute to Lukoki.
