FIFA, the global governing body of football, has presented United States President Donald Trump with its inaugural International Peace Prize, recognising what the organisation describes as his contributions towards promoting global peace.
FIFA Awards US President Donald Trump Its First-Ever International Peace Prize
The award was handed to President Trump by FIFA president Gianni Infantino during the 2026 World Cup draw ceremony held in Washington, D.C., on Friday.
Trump, who has previously campaigned publicly for the Nobel Peace Prize, had been widely considered a frontrunner for FIFA’s newly created honour.
“This is truly one of the greatest honours of my life,” Trump said as he accepted a gold medal and a gold trophy. “Beyond the award itself—Gianni and I were discussing this—we saved millions and millions of lives.”
Trump and Infantino share a well-documented close relationship, and the FIFA president has openly voiced his belief that Trump deserved global recognition for his attempts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza.
The US president has claimed credit for bringing an end to conflicts in Gaza and in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, among other regions, though active fighting continues in both.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, set to begin in June, will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The expanded tournament will feature a record 104 matches across 16 host cities throughout the three nations.
