Matt Hancock Accused Of Using Refugees To "Rebuild Popularity"

The former health secretary, Matt Hancock, has been accused of adopting Ukrainian refugees to bring back popularity lost after he was caught having an adulterous relationship with one of his female colleagues.

Hancock has pledged to take in 5 refugees from war torn Ukraine, and though a humble gesture of gratitude from the disgraced Tory, some aren't buying that he's merely doing it out of charity.

Good Morning Britain host, Richard Madeley, accused Hancock by saying: “We all know there will be cynics watching this and people who will go online, and say that the only reason that you're doing this is to rebuild your popularity”.

Hancock hit back saying: “What would you or I say to people who'd do that?

This came from me doing constituency work, which often gets overlooked, most other MP's are doing it and they're enjoying it too.

I will be signing up and offering my home to support our Ukrainian friends in need, I didn't do this in order to be public about it to try to rekindle people's faiths in me.

If I can encourage more people to sign up to the scheme by coming on and chatting with you, then it will be worth it”.

Hancock is thus remaining steadfast that he's doing this to help others and not himself.
