The 133 Year Old Landmark Is Slated To Be Repaired As France Is Slated To Host The 2024 Olympics
Paris's Iconic Eiffel Tower Is Covered In Rust And In Need Of Repairs
The Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, is slated to be repaired, after rust and broken steel sections were spotted dotting the iconic Parisian landmark.
Built
between 1886 and 1888 for the 1889 World's Fair, the 133 year old
tower and café has been repaired 19 times since being erected.
This
20th time will add modern rust proofing to the Eiffel
Tower, and repairs will be carried out on the broken sections.
The
French capital will be hosting the 2024 Olympic Games, and Emmanuel
Macron wants the it to be: “Safe for locals, athletes, and tourists
alike”.
The
Eiffel Tower was meant to be demolished in 1909, but the French
government prevented this due to it hosting valuable telegraph wires
and radio antennas.
When
the Nazis occupied Paris in WW2, Adolf Hitler contemplated taking it
down but chose to keep it.

“Germany is victorious on all fronts”.
French
and Parisian historical societies have approved of efforts to repair
the Eiffel Tower by stating: “The Eiffel Tower is a symbol of
Paris, France, and it's people.
It
is what many people first think of when they're told to think of
something French or in Paris.
So
it is key that we preserve this iconic landmark for future
generations, in France and all over the world”.
