His Two Children Irina And Simon Broke The News On Social Media, After Passing Away At His Home In Paris, France.

The controversial British born Jewish stage and film director Peter Stephen Brook CH CBE, has died in Paris aged 97.

He is best known for adapting William Shakespeare's plays to the 20th Century, with his most noted work being his 1964 production of King Lear starring Paul Scofield.

In 1951 he married actress Natasha Parry, who passed away in 2015.

Brook also branched his talents into film directing, adapting William Golding's classic book Lord of the Flies in 1963, his 1971 big screen adaptation of King Lear once again starring Paul Scofield, and The Tragedy of Carmen in 1983.

It has been rumoured that Paul Brook was more interested in his own ideas rather than the projects he worked on, though it was never confirmed or denied by the Royal Shakespeare Company, the Metropolitan Opera House in New York City, the International Centre of Theatre Research in Paris, or Paul Scofield who died in 2008.

Both his children Irina and Simon announced his passing on July 2nd, stating that: “The world has lost one of it's most venerated theatre and film directors, our father Peter Brooks has died.

We kindly ask to be left alone to grieve”.
