The government of oil-rich Norway is looking to donate 75 billion kroner ($7.3 billion) in a multiyear support package to Ukraine

Norway's government said Monday it was planning a five-year aid package to Ukraine worth 75 billion kroner ($7.3 billion), as well as additional aid to other countries affected by the conflict.

Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store discussed a plan with party leaders to grant 15 billion kroner a year for military and civilian support, he said in a statement to CNN after meeting with other party leaders on Monday. The funds will be used in a flexible manner, in line with Ukraine’s needs, he said.

"We are proposing that Norway gives a binding and lasting contribution to Ukraine,” he said.

Norway’s parliament must approve the aid package.

The Financial Times reported on Monday that the European Union is preparing for a potential visit this week by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to address the European Parliament.

EU leaders traveled last week to Kyiv to meet with Zelenskyy and other Ukrainian leaders to discuss the EU’s response to Russia’s invasion as well as Ukraine’s application to join the European Union.

Since Russia launched its invasion nearly one year ago, Zelenskyy has made only one known trip outside of Ukraine.
