Roma’s sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi, spoke candidly at the Social Football Summit held at the Stadio Olimpico, addressing the club’s troubled campaign. During the event, he discussed key issues, including the Giallorossi’s decision to bring Claudio Ranieri out of retirement in an effort to steady the ship.
Roma Sporting Director Admits Current Challenges Have Left Him ‘Unprepared’
“I wasn’t prepared for what we’re currently experiencing,” Ghisolfi admitted, as reported by Calciomercato. “This is not an easy period. We need to maintain morale, keep moving forward, work hard, and guide everyone through this difficult time. We’re not happy with the situation, but we must remain positive and ready to push on to overcome these challenges.
“It’s difficult to be fully prepared for moments like this. We have to take responsibility, confront the circumstances, and continue to believe in the project. Things can change very quickly—just look at Napoli last season. They went through four managers and look where they are now.”
Ghisolfi expressed his enthusiasm for Ranieri’s return to the club, viewing it as a valuable opportunity.
“For me and the club, it’s a fantastic chance to work with him. I already knew him; he’s a true gentleman and different from what we’re accustomed to. It’s an honour to learn from him and grow alongside him. Ranieri brings calmness, composure, and vast experience to the team,” he said.
Ranieri’s eagerly awaited debut on the touchline will come on Sunday, as Roma face a daunting test against Serie A leaders Napoli away from home. The Giallorossi entered the international break languishing in the lower reaches of the table, trailing Antonio Conte’s high-flying Napoli by a staggering 13 points.
The forthcoming clash in Naples represents a baptism of fire for the seasoned manager. Another poor result could deliver a significant psychological setback for Roma as they attempt to salvage their season.
