The man who portrayed Thomas Magnum's helicopter pilot sidekick Theodore "T.C." Calvin on the 1980s TV show Magnum P.I., Roger E. Mosley, has died after being involved in a car accident at a junction in Los Angeles, California, at the age of 83.

Mosley was on Magnum P.I. for the show's entire 8 season run between 1980 and 1988, getting along in real life with his costar and lead actor in the show Tom Selleck.

The two actors previously met during the filming of 1973's Terminal Island, following which Tom handpicked Mosley to be his sidekick on Magnum P.I..

Roger E. Mosley is also credited for appearances in The Mack, Leadbelly, Hit Man, The Greatest, Darktown Strutters and Sweet, and Jesus Preacherman.

Mosley retired from acting in 2010 to be with his family, though he did make several cameos on the panned 2018 reboot of Magnum P.I. starring Jay Hernandez and Perdita Weeks.

His daughter Ch-a messaged Magnum P.I. fans on Facebook with a statement reading: "I'm sad to confirm the news that my father Roger E. Mosley has been killed in a car accident in the Lynwood area of Los Angeles, we could never mourn such an amazing man.

He would hate any crying done in his name, it is time to celebrate his legacy he left for us all.

I love you daddy, you loved me too, my heart is heavy but I'm still strong.

I will care for mommy, your love of almost 60 years, you raised me well and she is in good hands.

Rest easy".

Family friend Tina Andrews tweeted: "What a sweet man, and a fine actor who gave great parties.

RIP Roger, you were loved and shall be missed".

Tom Selleck issued a statement reading: "The passing of my good friend Roger E. Mosley has brought grief into my life where there was non before, we were good friends but now he's gone".
