The Top 6 Things a Caring Man Should Do To Support Their Significant Other During Pregnancy

A Pregnant woman needs maximum care because she is carrying a living person inside her womb.

It is your duty as a dedicated husband/partner to tend to her wellbeing and to help her when she needs you the most.

Because the health and safety of your wife/partner and growing baby are both essential, here is a list of 6 things caring men should do to help and support their significant other during pregnancy.

1. Do Not Allow Her To Consume Excessive Amounts Of Caffeine

Caffeine can pass to the placenta and damage the foetus in the same manner that alcohol does.

For a woman in full-term pregnancy, this translates to around 1.5 cups of coffee each day.

2. Do Not Let Her Sit Or Stand For Too Long

During pregnancy, staying in the same position for too long, seated or standing, can be problematic.

It can cause all types of problems, including swollen ankles and problems with both veins and arteries.

Help her take short breaks frequently to move around if she has been sitting, or to put her legs up if she has been on her feet.

3. Do Not Take Her On Amusement Park Rides

Amusement parks do not allow pregnant women on some rides, including roller coasters or any rides that may start or stop suddenly.

The jarring motion of these rides can cause placental abruption.

4. Prevent Her From Doing Any Task That Involves Heavy Lifting

When your wife is pregnant, she must have your entire support.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, pregnant women should avoid heavy lifting.

This is because lifting heavy objects can increase the risk of: pulling muscles, hernias, low birth weight and preterm labour, therefore do not allow her lift heavy objects.

5. Carefully Monitor Her Drug Usage

While illegal drug use is always dangerous, it can be even more harmful during pregnancy.

Using illegal drugs or misusing certain prescription drugs can cause a Newborn to go through neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS).

A baby with NAS will go through the symptoms of substance withdrawal at birth.

Additionally, drug use can increase the risk of stillbirth, pregnancy loss, and congenital abnormalities.

6. Do Not Let Your Significant Other Change The Kitty Litter (If You Own A Cat)

Cat faeces can carry toxoplasmosis, a rare parasitic disease that can cause numerous ill health effects that could jeopardise the pregnancy.

Therefore it's a good idea to change it yourself rather than leaving your partner/spouse to do it herself.

Plus it should be done regularly, at least once a day.
