Koci Selamaj, the man who murdered primary school teacher Sabina Nessa, has been sentenced to life in prison with a minimum of 36 years.
Nessa's
death added the the sense of insecurity felt by women walking through
city streets at night, in the wake of the murder of Sarah Everard by
a police officer in 2021.
The
judge at The Old Bailey noted Selamaaj's lack of any previous
convictions, stating: “It is striking, this feature of the
defendant's case, that he lacks any criminal record.
It
is not suggested that the defendant had any remorse upon murdering
Sabina Nessa, a true act of remorseless cowardice”.
Nessa's
body was found in Cator Park in the Kidbrooke area of south-east
London, last September.
She
was killed while on her way to meet a friend, the body was obscured
by the autumn leaves.
