Russian president Vladimir Putin and the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it had sent the Ukrainian servicemen trapped in a steel mill within the besieged city of Mariupol and ultimatum.
It stated: “Russia's armed forces along with those from the Donetsk Peoples Republic (DPR), based purely on humanitarian principles, propose that the Ukrainian fighters and foreign legionaries within the city of Mariupol surrender with no issues.
If you surrender, then you will be treated humanly in a POW camp with some perks, given your status as “Holdout Heroes”.
If you refuse, we will butcher all those who forfeited our generosity”.
Not a single Ukrainian soldier in the steel mill accepted it.
Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelesnky continues to stress that: "If any of my men in Mariupol held up in the steel mill dies at the hand of Russian gunfire, then any peace treaty is off".
There're still 100,000 civilians scattered around Mariupol, hiding in basements and service tunnels.
Russia has said that when it captures the city, they'll send them to the DPR and given a higher standard of life.
