The mayor of Mariupol, Vadym Boichenko, says that over 100,00 civilians are still stuck in the besieged city ruins.
The port city
is sandwiched between the two main eastern fronts that Russia has
control of, making getting in and out of the city suicide.
Russia has
announced that 1,026 POWs have been taken from Mariupol, but that's
in depute as Ukraine hasn't confirmed that they surrendered.
Civilians who
try to flee run the risk of being snatched by the Russians who'd
either kill them or send them off to the Donetsk Peoples Republic
(DPR), one of the breakaway regions Russia has full control of.
The local soldiers have reported making a last stand in the city since food and ammo is running out, says the Ukrainian commander in Mariupol.
