The battle for the Azovstal Steel Plant in the Russian occupied city of Mariupol is slated to last a working week.
200
civilians, roughly 30 children, and 2,000 members of the Ukrainian
Army's Azov Battalion are held up in the disused steel plant fighting
off the Russians.
Ukrainian
president Volodymyr Zelensky has stated that: “The Azov Battalion
holding out inside the Azovstal Steel Plant will be remembered as
martyrs of Ukrainian sovereignty and it's freedoms.
If
any of the civilians or dare I say the children are killed, then
Putin will have lost his chance of obtaining a ceasefire”.
The Pentagon stated that it believes that nobody will survive the Russian assault of the steel factory.
Previously some women and children were able to leave the steel plant, but the raid has made it nigh impossible for them to leave now.
Azov
Battalion have reported that male civilians will be given rifles and
pistols if requested to fight the Russians, leading many in Kiev
divided on this act of comradeship.
Some
endorse the act of giving the male civilians in the steel plant guns
to fight the Russians, whilst others warn that it would lead to
unnecessary bloodshed at the hands of Russians suspecting every
civilian is armed.
